From the independence, until August 1992, the national flag of the Republic of Macedonia was the same as in the “Socialist Republic of Macedonia” - a red flag with a red pentagram star, delineated with golden borders.
From 1992 to 1995, the national flag of the Republic of Macedonia was also red, but with another symbol – sixteen-ray sun/star of Kutlesh / Vergina.
After the political pressure by Greece, the Assembly adopted another symbol for the national flag in 1995, a larger eight-ray sun, but the flag with the “sun of Vergina” did not disappeared from the public gatherings and sport events.
